Studio residency with Bow Arts, Shaftesbury Avenue 2024/25
Turps/MASS sculpture 2024/25
Inspired by joyous expressions of agency, I try to evoke these through figurative forms and the spaces they energise around and between them.
I’ve been building unstable structures in playful materials such as freshly recycled clay and wooden blocks. As I intuitively develop the figurative formations that seem to emerge from the inevitable structural collapse, I find they speak to me of human resilience in situations of personal, social and political upheaval.
While I revel in the theatricality of disruption, expressed in the hard-edged counter-directional planes of, for example, Futurism and Cubism; I nevertheless seek to retain the tactile quality of mark-making in materials that, when seen in other artworks, helps me connect viscerally with our humanity.
